Does anyone know where to find the pictures and text that are referred to in the scribus tutorial that are used for making the magazine??

I found the whole tutorial terribly legrubious and gave up.  Good luck and if you figure it out, let me know.

Ther are a number of options on the page http://wiki.scribus.net/index.php/Get_Started_with_Scribus under the section starting 'The original files (2004)..."

I investigate DTP for use at school. So I stumbled over Scribus. I think it will work. The tutorial must be translated in Dutch gemengd gevoel

But by doing so I will understand it much better grijns

This is the file, you have to unpack it with winrar or something like that. 
Hope it works for you :)
